This media fellowship is an initiative of the Nova Institute for Health and is a part of their Media Fellows Program. The 2024 Media Fellowship aims to expand both the quantity and quality of print and online articles, as well as broadcasts, that offer a comprehensive view of health grounded in scientific principles and to provide accurate coverage of relevant concepts, inquiries, and discussions.

Similarly, with this fellowship for Journalists in 2024, fellows will be able to work towards Solutions Journalism and reduce the spread of misinformation and disinformation, particularly prevalent in health and science communications. The 2024 Nova Media Fellowship aims to provide media fellows with dedicated time and resources to work on their proposed projects. They will be able to explore, research, and communicate issues relevant to the health framework.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the Fully Funded Nova Media Fellowship in USA are stated below:

  • Ideal candidates are full-time journalists with established track records of publication or broadcast in local, regional, or national markets with relevant full-time experience.
  • Proposals may include international issues and involve international travel. However, applications for the 2024 cycle are restricted to US-based journalists.
  • Moreover, the Nova Institute actively encourages applications from individuals belonging to communities of color, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, or other historically marginalized communities.
  • The fellowship is of 12 months and Media Fellows must commit a minimum of 35 hours per week to their proposed projects, which should be their only full-time work during the Nova Media fellowship. 
  • Similarly, there will be Bi-monthly check-ins with Media Fellows and attendance at annual meetings is a must, including one scheduled for 29 September to 2 October 2024, in Baltimore, Maryland.
  • Nova Media Fellows must propose deliverables or outcomes that reflect a year’s worth of full-time, ambitious work.
  • Projects solely involving foundational research for future use will not be supported.
