Eligibility

  • Applicants must belong to one of the developing countries mentioned above.
  • They shall submit a joint research proposal, including the supervisor of Partner University and Ghent University.
  • Female applicants are encouraged to apply for the Ghent University Scholarships in Europe.
  • Exchange students cannot apply for this scholarship.
  • They must agree to the mobility scheme of the PhD scholarship in Belgium.
  • Their first research stay must start between 1 October 2025 and 28 February 2026.
  • There are no restrictions related to the field of research. Nonetheless, preference will be given to development-related topics.
  • Only those students who intend to obtain a joint PhD degree at Ghent University can apply for this Ghent University Doctoral Scholarship in Belgium.
  • This doctoral scholarship program is for those students who are at the beginning of their PhD (before the program starts, applicants must have a minimum of 36 months of doctoral research left to complete their PhD).
