Introduction

The Sue Napier Scholarship in Education at University of Tasmania in Australia is open to Australians. It is offered for Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the field of Education. The deadline for sending an application is 31 Oct 2024. This scholarship is provided by the University of Tasmania.

The late Sue Napier, MHA, was a distinguished servant of the Tasmanian community through her roles as Deputy Premier, Opposition Leader, Minister, and leader of the Liberal Party of Tasmania. She was the first Liberal woman cabinet minister and the first woman to lead the Liberal Party in Australia. Sue Napier fought tenaciously for issues she held dear and was a tireless worker who championed the cause of those who were disadvantaged or suffered discrimination. However, as a former teacher and academic, education was always closest to her heart.

To recognize her contribution to this State and to education, the Tasmanian Government, with the support of all sides of politics, has agreed to annually fund two education scholarships in her name to encourage and support deserving Tasmanians to become teachers, particularly those who might not otherwise afford it.
