Eligibility

  • Must be a citizen or refugee of a Sub-Saharan African country and have lived a significant part of their life in that region.
  • Must be 35 years old or younger at the time of application
  • Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Should not already possess a graduate or PhD degree.
  • Must present economically disadvantaged financial circumstances.
  • Must have achieved academic excellence under difficult circumstances.
  • Should show leadership qualities or potential.
  • Must demonstrate an interest in and commitment to giving back to their home community.
  • Must require a Canadian study permit to study in Canada.
  • Should not have claimed or plan to claim asylum or protected person status after arriving in Canada.
  • Must commit to returning to Africa to apply their training and skills for the betterment of others.

  • Complete the UBC Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program application form.
  • Respond to each question (200-300 words max per question).
  • Submit a CV detailing your education and work experience.
  • Provide two reference letters on official letterhead.
  • Attach unofficial transcripts; include translations if not in English.
  • Submit a completed checklist and signed declaration form.
