It honors the memory of Scott Reid, Partner of MinterEllison Gold Coast, who was a brilliant leader, mentor, lawyer, and family man who approached both his professional and personal life with great humility, empathy, and good humor. Scott also devoted much of his life to the development of AFL in Papua New Guinea, which now has more than 2.5 million people who have played the game and participated in international AFL tournaments in Australia

The successful candidates are awarded the following benefits:

  • AUD 5,000,
  • Annual four-week paid law clerkship.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be citizens of Papua New Guinea or demonstrate affinity with the Papua New Guinea community.
  • If there is no such applicant, applicants of Pacific Islands heritage or affinity will be considered.
  • Candidates must have applied to study an eligible law program at Griffith’s Gold Coast campus by the scholarship application closing date.
  • Students should satisfy all academic and English language entry requirements for the Bachelor of Laws (Hons), Bachelor of Laws (Hons)/double degree, or Juris Doctor program.
  • Candidates should be full-time students starting in Trimester 1 2025.

Application Process

All eligible candidates must apply online to be considered for the scholarship. The application should include the following components:

  • A certified/attested true copy of any supporting documents (educational certificates and academic transcripts).
  • A Personal Statement that addresses the following selection criteria:
    • Demonstrated capacity for leadership, initiative, and service to the community.
    • Epitomise Scott’s approach to life – ‘Laugh a lot, stand strong, and keep it all in perspective.
    • Seeks to utilize the law degree to make a difference.
