MBZUAI scholarships offers students a choice of graduate programs in a modern and innovative university setting, located in the thriving capital of the UAE, combining a contemporary education system and robust curriculum with the rich culture and heritage of Abu Dhabi.

MBZUAI offers an array of graduate master’s and Ph.D. programs designed for the pursuit of advanced specialized knowledge and skills in AI. The university offers both a Ph.D. and master’s programs in computer vision (CV), machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP). They currently offer three Ph.D. and three M.Sc. programs in the three AI specializations. It is a a research focused university with  a very diverse student body where almost one third (30%) of their students are female and the student body comes from more than 35 countries including a team of student recruitment specialist in all regions – North America, South America, Middle East, Europe, Central Asia, Asia Pacific and Africa.

Eligibility

For Master’s Program for MBZUAI Scholarships

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field from a university accredited or recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) with a minimum CGPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent.
  • Proof of English language ability by providing valid certificate copies of either of the following:

    • TOEFL iBT with a minimum total score of 90
    • IELTS Academic with a minimum overall score of 6.5
    • EmSAT English with a minimum score of 1550
  • An 800-word essay on Statement of Purpose
  • Applicants should have a minimum of two (2) referees wherein one was a previous course instructor or faculty/research advisor and the other a current or previous work supervisor.
  • Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an entry exam that will include questions related to the following topics:

    • Math: Basic math questions related to calculus, probability theory, linear algebra, and optimization
    • Machine learning: No previous background is needed for M.Sc. applicants
    • Programming

For Ph.D. Program

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field ( with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent) or Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in STEM fields ( with a minimum CGPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent) from a university accredited or recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE).
  • Each applicant must show proof of English language ability by providing valid certificate copies of either of the following:

    • TOEFL iBT with a minimum total score of 90
    • IELTS Academic with a minimum overall score of 6.5
    • EmSAT English with a minimum score of 1550
  • A valid and standard (i.e., exam was conducted at a physical test center) Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test certificate with the following minimum scores is mandatory for applicants applying with only a bachelor’s degree:
    • 150 in verbal reasoning
    • 150 in quantitative reasoning
    • 3.0 in analytical writing
  • An 800-word essay n Statement of Purpose.
  • A research statement  including :

    • Title
    • Problem definition
    • Literature review
    • Proposed research/methods/solution (optional)
    • Study timeline (a table, figure or a small paragraph presenting your plans for the four years in the Ph.D. program)
    • EmSAT English with a minimum score of 1550

    Applicants are expected to write the research statement independently.

  • Applicants should have a minimum of three (3) referees wherein at least one was a previous course instructor or faculty/research advisor and the others were current or previous work supervisors.
  • Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an entry exam that will include questions related to the following topics:

    • Math: Basic math questions related to calculus, probability theory, linear algebra and optimization.
    • Machine learning : Basic understanding of different machine learning algorithms and concepts such as linear regression, decision trees, loss functions, support vector machines, classification, regression, clustering, convolutional neural networks, etc.
    • Programming : Strong programming background.

Others

Students have to

  • Apply for admission via online application form.
  • CV (with academic background, work experience, research publications, and programming/coding skills)
  • Valid passport copy
  • Photograph with white background
  • Valid Pakistan national identity card copy (only for Pakistan nationals)

UAE Nationals have to provide

  • Emirates ID
  • Passport copy with unified ID number.
  • Family book
  • UAE National Service completion/exemption letter (for UAE National male only)

UAE residents (living in the UAE) have to provide

  • UAE visa
  • Emirates ID

Students applying for admission who wish to transfer credit from a federal or licensed institution in the UAE, or a foreign institution of higher learning based outside the UAE and accredited in its home country must provide evidence, as outlined in the admission procedure, which will allow the Academic Committee to make a determination regarding the transfer.
