Introduction

The CAMHRA Masters Scholarships in UK is open to all nationals. The Centre for Anthropology and Mental Health Research in Action (CAMHRA) at SOAS University of London is happy to announce its Master’s scholarships for the academic year starting September 2024. These scholarships are designed to support individuals who may not typically pursue studies in anthropology or ethnographic methods due to existing time, financial, or social constraints.

This scholarship aims to recognize and support outstanding academic achievement among international students enrolling in master’s degree program at the SOAS University of London.

SOAS University of London is a renowned institution located in London, England. Established in 1916, it was initially designed as a colonial project to train British civil servants for overseas postings. SOAS has a unique organizational structure, consisting of constituent colleges that organize their academic work. It is one of the universities in London that uses this model, along with the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.

Benefits

Each full-time scholarship covers tuition fees for the academic year 2024/25. For part-time students, funding will cover tuition fees for the academic years 2024/25 and 2025/26.

Eligibility

  1. For the MA in Medical Anthropology and Mental Health:
    • Hold a minimum 2:1 bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or related subject, OR in health sciences including medicine, psychology, nursing, or social work.
    • Have a strong research project idea that utilizes ethnographic methods to understand an issue related to mental health.
  2. For the MRes in Social Anthropology:
    • Hold a minimum 2:1 bachelor’s or master’s degree in Anthropology.
    • Have a strong research project idea that utilizes ethnographic methods.

Preference may be given to:

  • Candidates with lived experience of working in or accessing mental health care as a professional or service user.
  • Candidates from underrepresented groups, including racialized and minoritized groups.

To apply for the scholarship:

  1. Apply for your chosen program:
    • MA in Medical Anthropology and Mental Health: Apply via Taught Masters applications.
    • MRes in Social Anthropology: Apply via the Doctoral school.
  2. Complete the scholarship application by 12:00 PM (midday UK local time) on 31 May 2024, using the online application form.

Applicants will be notified of the scholarship outcome by the end of July 2024.
