Introduction

The Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship at University of Alberta in Canada is open to Canadians. It is offered for Master's and PhD degrees in the fields offered by the university. The deadline for sending an application is 16 Oct 2024. This scholarship is provided by the University of Alberta.

The new Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of students pursuing graduate studies in Alberta. It was established to incentivize the best and brightest students, including international students, to study in Alberta.

Benefits

The successful candidates are awarded a one-time payment of CAD 12,000.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be citizens of Canada.
  • Applicants must have aboriginal ancestry and be Status Indian/First Nations, Non-Status Indian/First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.
  • Applicants must enroll in master's or doctoral programs.
  • Applicants must be living in Alberta while enrolled at the institution.
  • Current students must be registered full-time in the Fall 2024 or Winter 2025 terms. Newly admitted January 2025 students must be registered full-time in Winter 2025.
  • Applicants must exhibit outstanding academics.
  • Applicants must be registered in years 1-4 of the master's program or years 1-6 of the doctoral program during the tenure of the scholarship.

Application Process

All eligible candidates must complete the online application using the GSMS Awards Portal. The application should include the following components:

  • Up-to-date unofficial UofA Transcript,
  • CV (maximum 5 pages),
  • Research Proposal (thesis-based students), Explanation of Courses and End Goals or Final Project-Capstone Project (course-based students),
  • Completed AGES Student Declaration form,
  • Academic Letter of reference (online request form is sent through the GSMS portal),
  • Proof of Indigenous ancestry.
