The East-West Center (EWC) is a non-profit, independent, public organization that promotes understanding and relations between the United States, Asia, and the Pacific islands. It was established by the United States Congress in 1960 as part of Cold War diplomatic efforts. The EWC's mission is to provide information and analysis on issues of common concern, and to bring people together to exchange views, develop policy options, and build expertise.
