Capitec Bursary Eligibility Criteria

  • South African Citizen
  • Aged 27 or younger on 31 December 2026
  • 2025 matric students or gap-year after matric in 2024 allowed
  • Registered for full-time studies at a DHET/CHE registered tertiary institution in 2025
  • Pursuing NQF-7 (or higher) qualifications: Bachelors Degree/Honours
  • Not open to N4/5/6, Higher Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Masters or Doctoral students
  • Not open to TVETs, Community Colleges, Graduate/Business School, or Distance-learning students
  • Grade 12: Bachelor’s Pass with minimum average of 65%
  • Tertiary: Academic average of 65% or above for latest full academic years (2024 and 2025)
  • Fields of study: Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Digital Marketing, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Quantitative Management, Statistics

Who can apply for the Capitec Bursary?

What fields of study are supported?

Is there a work-back obligation?

Yes, you are obligated to work back for every year of funding provided by Capitec. If you do not fulfill this, you may have to refund the value of the bursary benefits received plus interest at the prime rate.

Can I apply if I am a distance-learning student?

No, distance-learning students (including UNISA) are not eligible. The bursary is for full-time students only at DHET/CHE registered institutions.

You need a certified South African ID, parents/guardian ID or death certificate, proof of household income, NSFAS or other bursary funding documents, and academic records. Specific documents vary for matric, tertiary, and gap-year students.

Is the bursary renewable?

No, Masters and PhD students do not qualify for this bursary. The program is only for Bachelor’s and Honours degree students.
