Hungary is located in Central/Eastern Europe, bordering e.g. on Austria in the West and Romania in the East. It has a population of around 10 million people, of which 3 million live in Budapest, the capital city. Other important student cities are Szeged, Pécs, and Debrecen.

Dozens of universities across the country offer programs that are fully taught in English. Across all academic disciplines, there are hundreds of study programs in English available for international students. Those degrees follow the European Bologna scheme and are recognized across Europe and elsewhere around the world.

If you are looking for high-quality education, you’ve come to the right place. Hungarian universities have spawned many smart minds, including well-renowned scientists like mathematician John von Neumann and Nobel laureate Albert Szent-Györgyi, who discovered vitamin C.

Benefits of studying Hungary

Studying in Hungary comes with numerous benefits! For starters, tuition fees, in general, tend to be lower than in other European countries, making it a great choice for anyone on a budget. On top of that, many universities offer generous scholarships and grants to international students which add an additional incentive. With all these benefits and more, it’s no wonder why universities in Hungary have become such popular study-abroad destinations.

Low Competition for Admission and Scholarship

Many international students from all around the world go to Hungary for higher education. However, we can’t say that it’s a popular study-abroad destination. This makes it very beneficial for international students because it means less competition. Countries like the USA are best in the field of higher education but hard competition makes it difficult to get admission there. As the competition is low, it is easier to get admission even to the top-ranked universities in Hungary. The best thing is that you also have more chances of getting a scholarship. Hungarian universities would offer reasonable scholarships to attract international students.

Lower Living Cost

Hungary is one of the cheapest study-abroad destinations in the whole of Europe. Other European countries may offer lower tuition fees in universities but their living cost is almost twice of Hungary. Living cost is more difficult to handle than university fee. Hungarian universities may charge higher fees compared to other European universities but because the living cost is lower in Hungary, it makes the overall cost of studying abroad lower here. To give you a clearer idea, Numbeo estimated that the cost of living in Hungary is almost 89% more than the cost of living in Pakistan. On the other hand, the cost of living in Germany is 192% more than in Pakistan while France is 230% more expensive compared to Pakistan. You should also know that Germany and France are the most popular study-abroad destinations in Europe.

Can Study Without IELTS or TOEFL

Though passing IELTS or TOEFL is not very difficult if you have enough language skills to study abroad, still many students find it a bit of a pickle in their way. The good news for them is that many universities in Hungary do not require you to have IELTS or TOEFL certification to get admission. However, they ask for a complete understanding of the English language if you plan to study English-Taught program. Moreover, you have the option to study in Hungarian or German language.

Tuition Fees & Scholarships

Universities in Hungary offer relatively low tuition fees for international students. Depending on the program and the institution, tuition can range from approximately USD 2,500 to USD 9,000 a year. Medical degrees are in a higher price range and can cost up to USD 18,000 a year. The fact that tuition fees - even those in medicine - are much lower than in other European countries, while the degrees earned here are accepted all over Europe, makes Hungarian universities attractive and affordable for prospective students with different financial backgrounds. Additionally, many universities offer scholarships and grants to international students, making it even more affordable to study in Hungary. Scholarships can range from a few hundred dollars to full tuition waivers, depending on the individual school and program.
