Through the WTO Young Trade Leaders Programme 2026, selected participants will engage with international trade topics and contribute their perspectives on global challenges. Participants may also be invited to attend a one-day in-person training at the WTO headquarters in Geneva, gaining valuable exposure to how global trade rules are shaped and implemented.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Between the ages of 18 and 28 on the date of application.
  • Have a strong interest in International Trade.
  • Must be a citizen of a WTO member
  • Good level of english and can communicate in English.
  • Committed to participating fully throughout the one-year programme (July 2026-June 2027).

WTO Young Trade Leaders Programme 2026 Required Documents

  • CV (no more than two pages)
  • A 2-3 minute video introducing yourself, expressing your interest, and explaining the impact you hope to have as a Young Trade Leader.
  • A 300-word essay on:
    • How can trade better serve the next generation?
    • What role should young people play in shaping the future of trade?

Invitation to Switzerland

Traders will be invited to attend a One-day Training in Geneva, Switzerland, in September 2026.

How to Apply?

  • Make sure you meet the eligibility criteria: between 18–28 years old, a citizen of a WTO member country, not currently affiliated with the WTO, and fluent in English.
  • Prepare a professional CV no longer than two pages, highlighting your education, experience, and interest in international trade.
  • Record a short 2‑minute video introducing yourself, explaining why you’re passionate about the programme, and sharing the impact you hope to make as a Young Trade Leader.
  • Write a brief contribution (maximum 300 words) answering the question: “How can trade positively contribute to people and the planet?”
  • Upload all documents online: your CV, video, and written contribution.
  • Submit your complete application before the deadline to be considered for the programme.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview, after which selected candidates will begin the programme.
