Wellcome Early-Career Award Eligibility Criteria
- You must be an early-career researcher ready to design, plan and deliver your own innovative research project
- You must have completed a PhD or equivalent higher research degree, or have at least four years’ equivalent research experience
- You must have no more than three years of postdoctoral experience at the application deadline, unless you can demonstrate impact of career breaks
- You must be able to contribute at least 80% of your research time to the project
- You must have sponsorship from an eligible host organisation in the UK, Republic of Ireland, or a low- or middle-income country (apart from India and mainland China)
- You cannot hold a tenured (salaried) post for the duration of the award unless based in a low- or middle-income country
- You cannot have made a previous application to this scheme and be waiting for a decision
- You cannot hold, have held, or have accepted an offer for an equivalent award at this career stage
- You cannot carry out activities that involve the transfer of grant funds into mainland China
