Admissible Criteria: To be eligible for UiT The Arctic University of Norway PhD Scholarship 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Norwegian master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field
  • Meet the admission requirements for the PhD programme at the Faculty of Science and Technology, UiT
  • Have a minimum grade average of C (strong 3.0) or better in the master’s degree
  • Demonstrate strong technical competence in generative AI, especially non-language modalities (visual media preferred)
  • Possess excellent written and spoken English proficiency
  • Show strong motivation and suitability for interdisciplinary and participatory research
  • Preferred (but not mandatory):
  • Experience with inclusive AI or Indigenous/Sámi contexts
  • Experience in community engagement or participatory research
  • Background at the intersection of AI and arts
  • Working knowledge of Sámi, Norwegian, or another Scandinavian language
  • Applicants who already hold a PhD or equivalent competence are not eligible.
