Technical Fellowships provide cancer professionals the chance to gain new knowledge, skills and techniques in cancer control through short learning visits of two weeks to two months’ duration. This specific fellowship opportunity was originally launched in 1976, and was called the International Cancer Research Technology Transfer awards (ICRETT), and has facilitated knowledge exchange for the last four decades.
UICC, the Union for International Cancer Control, is a global organization dedicated to uniting the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden. Through its fellowship programs, UICC supports capacity building and knowledge transfer among cancer professionals worldwide, fostering networks and improving cancer control outcomes.

Technical Fellowships Eligibility Criteria
- Public health professionals including epidemiologists, health educators, social workers, nutritionists, administrators and other specialised professionals working in the field of cancer control
- Cancer researchers performing translational, clinical and/or implementation research
- Clinicians, nurses and pathologists
- Applicants must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree
- Qualified medical doctors may be considered in the absence of a higher degree if they hold or are within a year of holding a board certification in a cancer-related specialty
- Registered nurses with an RN qualification are eligible
- An equivalent one-year’s training qualification in a specialty related to cancer post university degree can be accepted as equivalent to a Master’s degree
- All candidates should have worked in the field of cancer for at least five years prior to applying
- Medical and PhD Students are not eligible to apply

What types of research are prioritized for Technical Fellowships?
Fellowships on preventing cancer or detecting it early, as well as projects ensuring equitable access to affordable treatment and palliative care, are prioritized. UICC particularly welcomes applications aligned with its Business plan and path to 2028.
Can I apply for a fellowship focused on basic research?
Applications on purely basic research are not encouraged. Applicants working on these topics are encouraged to apply for a YY Study Grant instead, which is more suited to basic cancer research.
