Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

2 posts

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) represent one of Canada’s most prestigious doctoral funding programs, designed to attract and retain world-class doctoral students from across the globe. These scholarships provide substantial financial support to exceptional candidates pursuing doctoral studies at Canadian universities, with a focus on academic excellence, research potential, and demonstrated leadership qualities. Administered by three federal granting agencies—the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)—the Vanier CGS program aims to strengthen Canada’s research capacity by supporting doctoral students who show leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement. Each year, up to 166 scholarships are awarded, valued at $50,000 per year for three years during doctoral studies. The program welcomes applications from both Canadian and international students, with eligibility criteria including academic excellence, research potential, and leadership. The highly competitive selection process evaluates candidates based on these three pillars, making the Vanier CGS one of the most sought-after doctoral awards in Canada. Successful recipients join an elite community of researchers and leaders who contribute significantly to Canada’s innovation ecosystem and global research landscape.
