Helmut Schmidt Scholarship
The Helmut Schmidt Scholarship, officially known as the Helmut Schmidt Programme, is a prestigious international scholarship initiative funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and administered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). This fully-funded scholarship program supports future leaders from developing countries who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in public policy, governance, and related fields at selected German universities. The scholarship covers tuition fees, monthly stipend, health insurance, travel allowance, and study/research subsidies. Eligible candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with above-average academic performance, demonstrate professional experience in relevant fields, and show strong leadership potential. The program aims to educate future decision-makers who will contribute to democratic development and good governance in their home countries. Applications typically open in June each year for programs starting the following academic year. The selection process is highly competitive, with emphasis on academic excellence, professional experience, and motivation to contribute to social development. Successful applicants join a network of international scholars and receive comprehensive support throughout their studies in Germany.
