Gates Scholarship
The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding minority high school seniors from low-income households. Established by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this prestigious program aims to provide exceptional minority students with the opportunity to reach their full potential by covering the full cost of attendance not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to 300 student leaders who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership skills, and commitment to community service. The scholarship supports students through their undergraduate education at accredited U.S. colleges and universities, covering tuition, fees, room, board, books, and transportation. Recipients also receive comprehensive support services including mentoring, academic support, and leadership development. The Gates Scholarship seeks to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in all disciplines and create a diverse network of future leaders who will contribute to their communities and society at large. Applicants must be high school seniors, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and Pell Grant eligible with demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service or extracurricular activities.
