RTP Stipend Scholarship 2026 in Australia | Fully Funded

The RTP Stipend Scholarship provides a living allowance of $39,000 per annum, which is tax-free. This amount is designed to assist with general living costs for research students undertaking higher degrees by research at UTS.

To be eligible, students must be undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) at UTS in the year of the RTP Stipend and not be receiving an equivalent award, stipend or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the RTP Scholarship stipend rate. Income from sources unrelated to the course of study is not subject to the 75% rule.

The application close date is 15 April 2026, with applications opening on 16 March 2026. For Research Session 1 – 2026, applications close 30 September 2025. Applicants must submit completed applications by the relevant deadlines as incomplete applications will not be considered.

The scholarship duration is up to 3.5 years full-time for PhD students and 2 years full-time for Master of Research (MRes) students. The scholarship provides ongoing support throughout the research degree program.

Candidates who identify as seeking scholarship will be assessed on a competitive basis against the University selection criteria. The selection process evaluates academic achievement and research potential to identify highly ranked research students.

There is no separate Application Form for RTPS scholarships for prospective students. Completing one form will mean that you are considered for all associated scholarships. New research students should tick the YES box in the SCHOLARSHIP/SPONSORSHIP INFORMATION section of their course application.

Yes, currently enrolled students can apply by completing a GRS Scholarship Application form before the deadline. They should refer to the Research Scholarships section for more information about scholarship opportunities for existing students.

Students cannot receive an equivalent award, stipend or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the RTP Scholarship stipend rate to undertake their HDR. However, income earned from sources unrelated to the course of study is not subject to this 75% rule.

The Commonwealth Government Department of Education and Training funds the scholarship. It is part of the Australian Government Research Training Program designed to support research students demonstrating outstanding academic achievement and research potential.
