MEXT Scholarship Japan Eligibility Criteria

  • Research students: Under 35 years of age and eligible for admission to a master’s or doctoral program
  • Teacher training students: Under 35 years of age, graduates of a college or teacher training college, with at least five years of active teaching experience
  • Undergraduate students: Under 25 years of age and have completed 12 years of school education
  • Japanese studies students: Between 18 and 29 years old, enrolled as an undergraduate in Japanese language or culture at a university outside Japan
  • College of technology students: Under 25 years of age and have completed education for 11 or more years
