TeachNZ Scholarships (Te Huarau Scholarship) 2026 in New Zealand

TeachNZ Scholarships are a fantastic opportunity for aspiring teachers in New Zealand to receive financial support while pursuing their studies. Designed to encourage more people into the teaching profession, these scholarships are available for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the field of education. Funded by the New Zealand Government, TeachNZ Scholarships not only cover full course fees but also provide additional financial support, making it easier for students to focus on their learning journey and prepare for a rewarding career in teaching.

With generous funding that includes up to NZD 10,000 plus tuition costs, TeachNZ Scholarships open doors for citizens and permanent residents of New Zealand who are passionate about shaping the future through education. These scholarships aim to remove financial barriers for students committed to becoming teachers and contributing to the country’s education system. If you dream of making a difference in classrooms across New Zealand, applying for TeachNZ Scholarships could be your pathway to both professional growth and community impact.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

  • be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • be enrolled, have applied for, or be planning to enrol, on 1 of the approved initial teacher education courses listed on the Teaching Council’s programme-finder tool (see the popular resources section of this page.) These courses may be updated during the year.

You are not eligible for the scholarship if you:

  • have already received a TeachNZ scholarship
  • have already completed initial teacher education training or are already a registered teacher.

Benefits

  • The selected candidates are awarded the following benefits:
    • Course fees to study an approved teaching qualification.
    • An allowance of NZD 10,000 throughout the study (limited to 4 years).
