Every year about 800 foreign students come to Germany as foreign-language assistants (FLA) to be placed in host schools and support the local subject-specialist teachers in their native languages. The FLA assist the teachers during 12 lessons per week and help make the situation of learning a foreign language lively and inspiring for the pupils.
The FLA’s responsibilities include
students from Australia, Belgium, Canada (anglophones and Quebec), France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and China.
As a rule, the future foreign-language assistants should have completed a degree course of at least 2 years at a higher education institution in their home countries with one of the subjects being German.
