Up to 120 sponsorships for young graduates from 50 nations are awarded every year by the German Federal Parliament (Deutsche Bundestag). The sponsored students are invited to Berlin for a period of 5 months. They take part in events and seminars during this time and complete a work placement with a member of the Bundestag.
The aim of the programme is to promote relations between participating countries and Germany, to strengthen democratic will and tolerance, to deepen an understanding of cultural diversity and to safeguard a peaceful living together in the world.
The scholarship is worth a monthly amount of 700 EUR and provides for free accommodation as well as health-, accident- and liability insurances. Moreover, costs for the journey to Berlin and back are reimbursed.
The President of the Bundestag is the patron of the scholarship, which is awarded by the Bundestag together with three of Berlin's higher-education institutions: the Freie Universität, the Humboldt Universität and the Technische Universität.
