The Google Data Center Community AI Fellowship is a fully-funded program designed for community leaders leveraging AI to scale inclusive, local solutions in Google Data Center Communities. Fellows receive entrepreneurship training with embedded AI skills development, committed mentorship, integration of Google’s AI products, financial tools, and access to a global network.

Powered by Watson Institute in partnership with Google, this fellowship empowers leaders from data center communities in the USA, UK, Netherlands, and Finland. Fellows not only scale their own solutions but also train other local leaders through community-led Basecamps, deepening impact across their regions.

Google Data Center Community AI Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

  • You are an impact-driven entrepreneur or community leader leveraging technology or AI to address pressing challenges in your community.
  • You are located in, or creating measurable impact within, one of the following Google Data Center Communities: Austell/Douglas County, GA; Berkeley County, SC; Council Bluffs, IA; Fort Wayne, IN; Loudoun County, VA; Midlothian, TX; Omaha, NE; Stillwater, OK; Tulsa, OK (to include the Pryor/Muskogee areas); Groningen, Netherlands; Hamina, Finland; Waltham Cross/Hertfordshire, Thurrock or Epping/Essex, and the greater London area, UK.
  • You must be able to commit to the full program, including the virtual Immersive Week and weekly workshops held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
  • Your local solution or initiative has demonstrated early traction and impact in your community.
  • Adults 18 or older.

How to Apply for Google Data Center Community AI Fellowship

  • Submit Your Application: Complete the online application in approximately 30 minutes. Submit by the priority deadline of July 12, 2026, for early consideration. Applications will continue to be reviewed on a rolling basis after that until all spots are filled.
  • Application Review: Our Admissions Committee evaluates applications to identify innovative community leaders with scalable local solutions and strong potential for impact.
  • Interview: Selected candidates will be invited to a 20-minute Zoom interview to share their entrepreneurial journey, discuss their local solution’s vision for growth, and explore how the Fellowship aligns with their goals.
  • Final Selection & Enrollment: Final decisions will be announced by August 3, 2026. Accepted applicants must confirm their enrollment to secure their spot. The program begins on September 1, 2026.

Here are the most frequently asked questions about the Google Data Center Community AI Fellowship. These answers cover eligibility, benefits, deadlines, and how to apply.

What do the in-person components entail?

Fellows design and facilitate a comprehensive 1-3 day Basecamp training program in their communities during the Fellowship. Basecamps are community-based workshops where Fellows support community leaders and community members to deepen the innovation ecosystem across their communities. Select Fellows will also have the opportunity to engage in-person with members of their cohort during the Fellowship.

What are the costs associated with this program?

Fellows may be responsible for some travel expenses and meals during in-person programming. No fees are collected or directly associated with this Fellowship. The program is fully funded by Google.

Can I apply if my country or state is not listed under the priority geographies?

Unfortunately, we are not able to consider applications outside the geographies listed above. However, we run numerous programs a year and are likely to have an opportunity for you in the future. We encourage you to check back regularly and reach out to Watson Institute’s team members for more information.

What is the community development stipend?

The community development stipend is $1,000 and supports Fellows in organizing and facilitating comprehensive Basecamp training programs, a required outcome of the program. Basecamps are 1-3 day community-based workshops where Fellows support community leaders and community members to deepen the innovation ecosystem across their communities.

What is the application review timeline?

We understand the substantial interest in the program and strive to provide prompt responses. Decisions will be communicated by August 3, 2026. We appreciate your patience throughout this process.

How does this program open doors to funding?

Watson Institute connects Fellows to a robust network of potential investors, grantmakers, and partners dedicated to supporting local solutions with impact. Through mentorship, pitch opportunities, and relationship-building events, Fellows gain access to introductions and resources that can accelerate their growth and sustainability.

What is the long-term impact on Fellows and Alumni?

After completing the program, Fellows join a vibrant community of changemakers with ongoing access to resources, learning opportunities, and peer support beyond the program. Alumni often report increased revenue, expanded networks, stronger leadership skills, and greater community impact as a result of their Watson Institute experience.

What is the weekly time commitment?

The weekly time commitment is 8–10 hours per week, including workshops, community building events, optional mentorship sessions, Basecamp planning and implementation, and Summit preparations.
