  • An undergraduate applicant applying for a research-based experience is to provide a written institutional collaboration and student exchange agreement or a Letter of Invitation from the University of Alberta professor who has agreed to supervise you.
  • For graduate applications, an inter-institutional agreement is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Student applicants must be enrolled full-time in their proposed degree program at the time of application.
  • Must be proficient in the language of instruction at the Canadian institution (English or French) before their arrival in Canada, as the scholarship does not cover language training.

  • Check that you meet all eligibility requirements, including your level of study, home university enrollment, and intended research duration.
  • Identify a University of Alberta faculty member who can supervise your research and contact them directly via email.
  • In your email, include your full name, contact information, home university and country, current study level, year of your degree, scholarship program you are applying for, preferred research duration, ideal start date, and attachments like CV, transcripts, and cover letter.
  • Confirm that the faculty member agrees to supervise your research and approves your proposed plan.
  • Submit your complete application and supporting documents through the University of Alberta’s internal portal before the specified deadlines.
  • The University of Alberta will review applications and nominate eligible candidates to Global Affairs Canada for final selection.
