Erasmus Mundus GEM Scholarship 2027 is a two-year English-taught programme awarding a double degree and scholarship support including full tuition, insurance and a monthly allowance.

The GEM Erasmus Mundus programme (Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management) is delivered across partner European universities and offers four specialised tracks; selected students study one year in each of two countries and may receive Erasmus Mundus funding.

GEM Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants worldwide who meet GEM’s academic and language requirements
  • Recognized bachelor’s equivalent to at least three full-time years or 180 ECTS with First Class or Upper Second Class (2.1) results or an accepted equivalent
  • Lower Second Class (2.2) does not qualify
  • Final-year bachelor’s students can apply with current transcripts and a university statement confirming status and expected graduation
  • At least 15 ECTS in GIS or remote sensing is strongly recommended for Developer and Modeller applicants
  • Both study countries must differ from your country of residence at enrolment
  • Previous recipients of the Erasmus Mundus scholarships listed in GEM’s funding conditions are ineligible for another GEM award

How to Apply for GEM Scholarship

  • Submit one complete DreamApply application; scholarship consideration is automatic
  • Read the official GEM application instructions and download its compulsory CV template
  • Register in University of Twente’s DreamApply portal, complete the mandatory eligibility screening and select your GEM track
  • Upload passport, academic certificates, transcripts, necessary certified English translations and English evidence
  • Use the GEM CV template, maximum two pages
  • Answer the funding questions in euros
  • Submit before the deadline
  • Shortlisted scholarship candidates must complete the invited recorded interview

What does the GEM Scholarship pay?

GEM accepts IELTS Academic (6.5 overall, minimum 6.0 per section) and approved alternatives including TOEFL iBT, Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency, PTE Academic (63 overall and 59 per skill) and LANGUAGECERT Academic. Duolingo and IELTS General Training are not accepted; exemptions depend on country-specific criteria.

How do I apply to be considered for the scholarship?

Submit one complete DreamApply application via the University of Twente’s portal and complete the mandatory eligibility screening while selecting your GEM track. Scholarship consideration is automatic with the application; follow the official instructions and use the GEM CV template.

Are there application fees?

The GEM programme specifies that there is no application fee. Applicants should still upload all required documents and submit before the deadline to be considered.

Can I change my chosen GEM track after admission?

No. Applicants may apply to only one track and cannot change tracks after admission. Choose your track carefully as it determines partner universities and specialisation.

Does admission guarantee funding?

No. Admission to the programme does not guarantee a scholarship. Shortlisted candidates for funding are invited to complete a recorded interview; scholarship offers are separate from admission decisions.

What is the application deadline and key dates?

The application deadline for the GEM Erasmus Mundus MSc 2027–2029 is 15 January 2027 at 23:59 CET. Results are scheduled for 31 March 2027; the tuition payment deadline is 1 May 2027, and final certified graduation documents are due by 31 July 2027.
