Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are the most frequently asked questions about the EPOG JM Scholarship. These answers cover eligibility, benefits, deadlines, and how to apply based on the official EPOG admission page.

What degree is required to apply to the EPOG JM programme?

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree corresponding to at least 180 ECTS. The programme prefers a degree in economics, but degrees in other fields are acceptable provided the applicant has at least 24 ECTS in economics and 6 ECTS in statistics or econometrics. Graduating candidates expected to finish by 31 July may apply provisionally.

What proof of English is required for admission?

A good level in English must be documented and provided no later than June 10. Accepted proofs include CEFR C1+, TOEFL iBT 95+, IELTS 7.0+, C1 Advanced grade B+, C2 Proficiency grade C+, and PTE Academic 67+. GRE scores meeting specified minima can be considered as proof in some cases.

Can applicants who lack some required ECTS still be considered?

Outstanding applicants who do not strictly meet minimum requirements can be considered under specific conditions. If accepted conditionally, they may be asked to take additional preparatory or compensatory courses before or during the programme to meet the required ECTS thresholds for their chosen Major/Minor.

What documents must be uploaded with the online application?

Applicants must upload the completed online application form and attachments including CV, scanned diploma, full academic transcripts, proof of language proficiency, a statement of purpose (<=500 words), two recommendation letters, and a scanned passport. Documents not in English require translations; certified translations must be provided by June 10 if selected.

When does the application open for the two-year EPOG programme?

The official page states the application process for the two-year programme (Erasmus Mundus Joint Master) will open in October. The site does not list a specific day; accordingly, the expected application opening is October 2026. Applicants should monitor the EPOG website for the exact call opening date.

Are there pathway-specific eligibility differences?

Yes. Eligibility criteria differ according to the chosen Major and Minor. For example, Major A can accept management courses within the 24 ECTS, Major B expects microeconomics and macroeconomics for certain minors, and Major C has specific expectations per Minor (C1–C4). Applicants must check detailed pathway requirements on the EPOG site.

What should the statement of purpose include?

The statement of purpose must be no more than 500 words and should highlight the applicant’s motivation, relevant academic and work experience, future career plans, and indicate the preferred Major(s)/Minor(s) with their order of preference. For Minor C4, mention any Portuguese or Spanish proficiency that supports course attendance.

What are the requirements for recommendation letters?

Two recommendation letters are required from teachers/professors or job supervisors. Each letter should assess the applicant’s ability to follow the EPOG-JM Master’s programme and include date of issue, name, institution, position, signature, official stamp if available, and contact details (phone and email) of the recommender.

Is physical mobility compulsory during the programme?

Yes. Compulsory physical mobility applies to all enrolled students, including EMJM scholarship-holders and non-scholarship students. Specific details on mobility requirements and arrangements are provided on the programme’s mobility webpage linked from the EPOG site.

Can applicants submit documents by email instead of the online form?

No. Applicants should not send details or documents by email. All required documents must be uploaded in the Attachments section of the online application form available when the call is open. If selected, certified translations and additional documentation must be provided by specified deadlines.
