Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Here are the most frequently asked questions about the EMJM Euroculture Scholarship. These answers cover eligibility, English language requirements, deadlines, and application guidance based on the programme’s official information.
Should I have completed my Bachelor’s degree before applying to EMJM Euroculture Scholarship?
For EMJM Euroculture Scholarship applicants you must have completed your Bachelor’s degree by the scholarship application deadline (15 January 2027); provisional statements or statements of graduation are not accepted for scholarship applicants. Self-funded applicants may apply before completing their Bachelor’s degree provided they complete their studies before starting the Euroculture programme and may apply with a provisional statement of graduation.
My degree is not listed among the eligible backgrounds. Can I still apply?
Yes. If your academic degree is not listed you may still be eligible for EMJM Euroculture Scholarship if your prior studies provide a sufficient basis in arts- or social-sciences-related subjects. The list of fields is indicative rather than exhaustive. During the application stage the Board of Admissions reviews disciplinary content and theoretical foundations rather than the degree title alone.
Can professional or extracurricular experience compensate for a Bachelor’s degree that is not listed?
Generally, professional experiences will strengthen your overall selection result but they may not compensate for a deficit in the compulsory admission requirements. While relevant experience can improve selection, it usually cannot replace the compulsory academic requirements in sections 1.1–1.3. If unsure, contact the Consortium Secretariat at euroculture@rug.nl.
I hold a Master’s degree. May I be admitted to the Euroculture programme?
If you have completed a Master’s degree equivalent in duration, level, and quality that covers fields relevant to Euroculture, this may provide a valid basis for admission even if your Bachelor’s degree is not directly relevant. If you are currently enrolled in a Master’s degree, it may not be considered valid until you have completed it.
Is there a minimum GPA requirement for admission?
There is no fixed minimum GPA requirement. However, academic performance, grades and the quality of your academic writing are considered during the selection process. The Board evaluates academic merits in the context of the overall application dossier.
What English language test scores are accepted by Euroculture?
Accepted tests and minimum scores include IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no section below 6.5; TOEFL iBT overall 93 (including the Special Home Edition); Cambridge CAE (C1 Advanced) or CPE (C2 Proficiency) no older than five years; Pearson PTE Academic minimum overall 71 with at least 61 for writing no older than two years; LanguageCert Academic minimum overall 75 no older than two years (not recognized at Uppsala).
Why must I submit an English language test result?
A sufficient level of English proficiency is essential for successful participation in the Euroculture programme because students must engage with complex academic literature, produce written assignments, deliver presentations, and participate in discussions in English. The language requirement ensures all students can meet academic demands and participate fully in the international learning environment.
What are the exceptions to the English language test requirement?
You may be exempt if you completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree taught entirely in English or one full year (60 ECTS) of continuous university-level study in a country where English is the primary official language. Documentary proof such as a medium of instruction statement, transcript, diploma, or a faculty statement is required. Additional requirements may apply depending on your chosen university.
Can the English test requirement be waived for financial reasons?
No. The programme cannot waive the English language test requirement for financial reasons. All applicants must meet the established English language proficiency requirements and provide valid test results from one of the accepted providers. The requirement is applied consistently to all applicants.
What is the application deadline for EMJM Euroculture Scholarship applicants?
The EMJM Euroculture Scholarship application deadline is 15 January 2027. Scholarship applicants must have completed their Bachelor’s degree by this deadline and cannot apply with provisional graduation statements. Self-funded applicants have different provisions regarding provisional documentation.
