ECNU Shanghai Government Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health.
  • Applicants for pre-college program must have high school diploma and be under 23.
  • Applicants for bachelor degree program must have high school diploma and be under 25.
  • Applicants for master degree program must have bachelor degree and be under 35.
  • Applicants for doctoral degree program must have master degree and under 40.
  • Students that have won the Chinese Government Scholarship or any scholarship offered by other organizations are not entitled to apply SGS.

How to Apply for ECNU Shanghai Government Scholarship

  • Register and apply online at both ISO website (http://lxs.ecnu.edu.cn/application.php) and Shanghai Government Scholarship website (www.study-Shanghai.org) with institutional code 10269.
  • Download and print the application form.
  • Submit highest diploma (notarized photocopy); if currently studying or working, provide studying or working certificates.
  • Submit academic transcripts (notarized photocopy); if not in Chinese or English, attach notarized translations.
  • Submit a study or research plan in Chinese or English (minimum 1000 words).
  • Master’s and PhD applicants must submit two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors.
  • Submit a health certificate (photocopy).
  • Chinese-taught majors: HSK level 5 or above. English-taught programs: proof of English proficiency.
  • Music and Fine Arts applicants must submit their own works.
  • Pay application fee of 800 RMB during online application.
  • PhD applicants should submit published thesis, patents, or research achievements, and abstract of Master’s thesis.
