The CaribOx Visiting Fellowship 2027 is a fully funded research programme for academics based in the Caribbean to collaborate with the University of Oxford. It offers a 12-month affiliation including virtual engagement and a two-month in-person visit to Oxford, covering flights, accommodation, and daily expenses.

The Caribbean Oxford Initiative (CaribOx) is a partnership between Oxford and Caribbean research institutions. It aims to build long-term research collaborations across all disciplines, supporting knowledge exchange and academic networking between the two regions.

CaribOx Visiting Fellowship Benefits

  • Ten months of virtual engagement with the nominated Oxford collaborator.
  • A two month in-person visit to Oxford between Sunday, 25th April to Saturday 19th June 2027.
  • A University Card for access to online resources available through the University of Oxford, valid for 1 calendar year.
  • A per-diem towards the cost of subsistence while in Oxford.
  • The full cost of return economy-class flights to/from the UK.
  • Association and accommodation through All Souls College during residency in Oxford. This will include membership of the Common Room (which gives access to a common space reserved for the use of academics and members of the teaching staff, as well as the right to eat lunch and dinner without charge).
  • Visa application and logistical support for travel to/from Oxford.
  • Support and facilitation for virtual events and activities through TORCH.

CaribOx Visiting Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

  • Applications are open to researchers in all disciplines.
  • Hold a PhD or equivalent.
  • Be a legal resident of a Caribbean country (including the Windward and Leeward Islands).
  • Be fully employed by an academic institution based in the Caribbean (including the Windward and Leeward Islands). The applicant’s contract of employment should cover the length of the Fellowship.
  • In compliance with UK visa regulations, commit to return to the Caribbean following the CaribOx Fellowship residency in Oxford.
  • Have an existing collaboration or be in contact with a potential collaborator at Oxford prior to the application deadline.
  • Arrange and provide proof of relevant approvals by their home institutions related to taking up the Fellowship.
  • Possess a minimum of intermediate knowledge of English.

How to Apply for CaribOx Visiting Fellowship?

  1. Ensure you are eligible to apply.
  2. Contact your proposed Oxford collaborator ahead of making your application. If you do not currently have Oxford collaborator, please consult the university website on the divisions and department of the university to find one: https://www.ox.ac.uk/about/divisions-and-departments.
  3. Request your Oxford Collaborator to complete the statement of support form, and submit it via email to: [email protected] before the deadline, Tuesday, 15th September 2026, 17.00 UK time. Applications without a statement of support from an Oxford-based researcher will be disqualified.
  4. Fill out the application form in English. This includes submitting a research proposal that clearly outlines the proposed work to be undertaken during the Fellowship.
  5. Attach a CV. Please make sure to add information about any career breaks or similar on your CV.
  6. Request a letter of support for your application from the Academic Dean, or equivalent, at the institution you are employed by, to be submitted to [email protected] by Tuesday, 15th September, 17.00 BST.
  7. Submit the application form, the letter of support from a senior member of staff at the institution you work for, and your CV via email to: [email protected] before the deadline, Tuesday, 15th September 2026, 17.00 UK time. Please include your name and ‘CaribOx Visiting Fellowship’ in the subject title of your email.
