AUC Fellowship supports graduate students at the American University in Cairo through institutional and sponsored awards. AUC Fellowship helps qualified applicants cover tuition for up to nine credits per semester and may include partial tuition awards or housing allowances depending on the fellowship.

The American University in Cairo (AUC) offers both institutional fellowships funded by the University and sponsored fellowships funded by private endowments and donors. Fellowships are competitive and consider academic merit and financial need; applicants must submit a graduate admission application and a separate online fellowship application.

AUC Fellowship Benefits

  • Fellowship awards can be given in the form of full tuition fee coverage of nine credits per semester or partial tuition fee coverage between one and eight credits.
  • Graduate students must apply for fellowship support renewal every semester unless otherwise specified in the fellowship listing and/or the fellowship award letter.
  • International students on fellowship support may receive a housing allowance, conditional they are full-time students.
  • During an exchange semester, institutional fellowship coverage is only limited to AUC tuition.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are the most frequently asked questions about the AUC Fellowship Scholarship. These answers cover eligibility, coverage, deadlines, renewal, and how to apply based on AUC’s official fellowship information.

What types of fellowships does AUC offer?

AUC offers two categories of fellowships: institutional fellowships funded by the University and sponsored fellowships funded by private endowments and donors. Institutional awards are subject to AUC rules and availability, while sponsored awards follow terms set by the donors.

Who is eligible to apply for an AUC fellowship?

To compete, applicants must have completed an AUC graduate admission application and submitted a separate graduate fellowship application online. Priority is given to applicants with excellent academic standing and those fully admitted to a graduate program.

What does fellowship coverage include?

Fellowship awards can provide full tuition fee coverage of nine credits per semester or partial coverage between one and eight credits. International students on fellowship support may receive a housing allowance if they are full-time students. Coverage during an exchange semester is limited to AUC tuition.

Are provisionally admitted applicants eligible?

Applicants who are provisionally admitted with remedial English language requirements or with conditions to achieve certain grades in graduate courses are eligible for fellowship support, unless otherwise stated in a specific fellowship listing. Applicants with prerequisite undergraduate courses are not eligible.

How competitive are the fellowships and how are they selected?

Fellowships are highly competitive and selection is conducted by a committee that reviews each application. The committee considers academic performance, individual circumstances, and demand for the fellowship among applicants.

How long do institutional fellowships last and how are they renewed?

Institutional fellowship awards are usually for one semester and fellows must reapply every semester to continue support. Renewal depends on continued academic excellence and financial need. Fellowship availability in summer and winter sessions may vary.

What are the GPA requirements to apply and retain a fellowship?

A GPA of 3.2 or higher is required for continuing graduate students to be eligible to apply for fellowships and to retain fellowship support, unless a specific fellowship listing states otherwise.

When is the fellowship application deadline?

For the Spring 2027 cycle, the fellowship application is open from October 7, 2026 until November 2, 2026. Fall 2027 has two cycles: Dec 22, 2026–Jan 17, 2027 and Apr 6, 2027–May 6, 2027. Applicants should follow announced deadlines closely.

Do applicants need an admission decision before applying for a fellowship?

No. Applicants do not need to receive their admission decision prior to submitting a graduate fellowship application online. However, the graduate admission application must be on record and applicants should allow seven working days after receiving a student ID to start the fellowship application.

How do externally funded fellowship recipients differ in obligations?

Recipients of externally funded fellowships may have additional obligations such as responding to reporting requests, attending orientation events, and engaging with donors. They must agree to the terms set by the external funder and comply with any reporting or event requirements.
