Who is eligible for the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship?

Eligible applicants are citizens of an ASEAN member country (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam) excluding Singapore. They must have outstanding high school results, strong leadership qualities, a good co-curricular record, and be applying for a full-time undergraduate degree at NUS. Transfer applicants are not eligible.

What are the benefits of the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship?

The scholarship provides 100% coverage of subsidised undergraduate tuition fees (after the MOE Tuition Grant), an annual living allowance of S$5,800, a one-time computer allowance of S$1,750 upon enrolment, and an annual accommodation allowance of S$3,000.

Is there a bond attached to the scholarship?

While the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship itself has no bond, recipients must take up the MOE Tuition Grant. Singapore Permanent Residents and international students who take the Tuition Grant are bonded to work for a Singapore-registered company for three years after graduation. Dentistry and Medicine recipients have separate service bonds with the Singapore Ministry of Health.

How do I apply for the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship?

All eligible students who apply for undergraduate admission to NUS are automatically considered for the scholarship. There is no separate application form for the scholarship itself.

What are the academic requirements to maintain the scholarship?

The scholarship is renewed each semester provided the recipient maintains a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.50 (or equivalent) and has good conduct.

Can the scholarship be transferred to another programme?

The scholarship is tenable for the normal candidature period and can be transferred across programmes, excluding Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Music, and Yale-NUS College. Limited scholarships are available for Dentistry, Law, and Medicine.

Can I hold another scholarship concurrently?

Scholarship recipients may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, bursary, grant, award, or allowance without prior approval from the University.

What happens if I withdraw from the university or scholarship?

If a recipient decides to withdraw from the University or terminate the scholarship prematurely, the University reserves the right to impose repayment of all scholarship monies disbursed to the scholar.

Are there restrictions on overseas programmes?

Overseas programmes must be completed before September of the year prior to graduation. At least 75% of the credits required for graduation must be earned in Singapore, with no more than 25% obtained through overseas programmes.

What is the selection process for the scholarship?

Invited applicants are assessed based on their application strength. Only shortlisted candidates are informed via email for selection interviews conducted from January to July. Outcomes are informed by mid-July. NUS reserves the right not to award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit.
