Vechta Scholarship supports early-career researchers pursuing PhD projects on social justice, sustainability, and rural transformation. The Vechta Scholarship offers fully funded positions with interdisciplinary supervision and international collaboration to develop doctoral research with practical applications.

The program is hosted by the Vechta Institute of Sustainability Transformation in Rural Areas (VISTRA) at the University of Vechta and is funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation. The doctorate college brings together experts across social sciences, geography, ethics, economics, and sustainability science.

Vechta Scholarship Benefits

Vechta Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates with credentials related to sustainability and justice research are encouraged to apply.
• Academic fields that qualify include Human Geography, Social Sciences, Sustainability Science, Applied Ethics, Economics, Psychology, and related interdisciplinary fields.
• Strong academic preparation and a research proposal that directly relates to the goals of the PhD program are required.
• Strong language abilities appropriate for doctoral-level research are required.
• German: At least B2 level.
• English: At least C1 level.
• The doctoral dissertation may be written fully in English, but candidates must be proficient in both languages.
