Scholarship Description

Outstanding aspirants are invited to become a part of the Singapore Management University Tanoto Scholarships for the academic session 2020-2021. The program is funded by the Tanoto Foundation.

The funding program aims to support Indonesian and Chinese students who wish to commence undergraduate degree coursework in Singapore.

Tanoto Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation whose areas of focus include education, poverty alleviation, healthcare and disaster relief. Founded in 2001, the Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Sukanto Tanoto and his family, whose philanthropy dates back to 1981. Tanoto Foundation strives to be a centre of excellence for facilitating and improving access to quality education and to create opportunities to fight poverty.

Scholarship Benefits

Benefits of Singapore Management University Tanoto Scholarships:

  • The Scholarship, valued at $19,500 per annum ($15,000 towards tuition fees and $4,500 as cash allowance), is tenable for up to four years of study, subject to the scholar’s continued observance of the eligibility criteria and terms and conditions of award.
  • No bond is required under the terms of this Scholarship

Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible for Singapore Management University Tanoto Scholarships, applicants must fulfil the following requirements.

  • Eligible Countries: Indonesia and China
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Bachelor of Accountancy, Bachelor of Business Management, Bachelor of Science (Economics), Bachelor of Science (Information Systems), Bachelor of Science (Computer Science), Bachelor of Science (Computing & Law), Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Social Science.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must have to meet the following criteria:
  • Full-time SMU undergraduates of Indonesia or Chinese citizenship or Singapore Permanent Residents of Indonesia or Chinese citizenship.
  • Outstanding academic results.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Active involvement in co-curricular activities and/or community service.
  • Good leadership skills and character records.
  • Preference will be given to those with demonstrated financial need.

If you would like to be considered for Singapore Management University Tanoto Scholarships, please indicate your interest in the Scholarship section of the online application form for admission. There is no separate scholarship application form. 

Special consideration for this scholarship will be given to applicants with demonstrated financial needs. Applicants must also submit a separate financial aid application. This can be done via Applicant’s Self Service, after submitting the online application for admission. The financial aid application will open from 2 January to 31 May 2020 for prospective applicants applying for Academic Year 2020-21
